[JOURNALIST] TASK 3 - CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSES AND PRESENTATIONS

Hello, fellas! It’s Anthony, Frisky Hedgehogs’ journalist for week 3, and this has been our busy week:

Day 1. Monday 29th February
This week was more organized than the previous one, as the task was already uploaded, which made it easier for our facilitator to divide the task among the team. Both stars started designing the presentation they had to make for Wednesday, our topic being the colors, while the rest of us worked on the first slideshow, about CC and presentations.

Day 2. Tuesday 1st March
We had an hour break between classes, so we divided the groups again and continued working on our slideshows. We gave some final touches to the CC and presentations slideshow… and meanwhile the stars finished their PowerPoint about our topic!
By the end of the day, they had their work ready to show the team, so they did. The rest of us pointed out some things that could be corrected and that was it, everything was ready for the great day!






















Day 3. Wednesday 2nd March
The most cool-looking stars Frisky Hedgehogs had on this 3rd task presented our AWESOME work! But in the end, things didn’t turn out so well. The teacher didn’t like any of the works presented, but gave us a second chance to present our work on Monday 7th.















Day 5. Friday 4th March
We arranged to meet up after class to put some info in common and fix our presentation for Monday. We got other issues clear before working, as our facilitator thought it would be an important step. After that topic was discussed, the stars went on to show us the new presentation for Monday. We hope to impress our teacher with our new work.

During the week I was looking at some blogs:
- Looking for blogs relating to the topic I stumbled upon https://blog.creativecommons.org/. I wasn’t able to leave a comment but spent some time looking at some entries it had. In that blog you can read interesting articles about the CC licenses, and improve your knowledge on the subject. For example, the first article that appeared was about Bowie’s album cover Blackstar being released under a CC license so that it could be used and remixed around the world, backed up with an interview with the person who designed said cover. It’s always more fun to learn some facts from a particular issue than the theoretical part of, therefore I would encourage you to visit it!

[FACILITATOR] TASK 3 - CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSE AND PRESENTATION



HI!! 

I am Jose A Gómez The facilitator of  this week for task CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSES AND PRESENTATION. I have learnt an amount  of important things this week either to make a good presentation or using CC in a legal way. I am going to summarise  as much as possible.

Firstly, the work on Monday was delivered to each component of the group after reading the works that we must do for this week. On Tuesday, we put all parts together and make a poll through WhatsApp to take some decision, I should say that this is the toughest part of our daily lives as Frisky Hedgehogs. The moment of decisions making is not a strong point of us but as Facilitator, I was thinking about how to deal with that. On Wednesday the presentation was not so bad, to be honest, I consider that there were some aspects and points that can get better (you can see The Colours embedded below). By contrast, the material we use in class, as the projector, was not on our side, the colours were blurry and the structure suffered some imperfection. Moreover, I know that the one in charge on that was me, even Linda, the professor, said that every facilitator had failed what means that after that class I should do something, I must think of something different, and create a new way of working together to be the reborn Frisky Hedgehogs.
After several chatting through whatsApp for a few details, I set a meeting in a workroom at the library on Friday. I planning the meeting to speak about our intentions into this subject, what possibilities we have as a group, to ask for a bit more of empathy and spark our self-esteem.  All of us known that something ought to be done in other to deal with this subject as so to obtain a good grade and take advantage of the feedback that Linda was saying in the classroom on Wednesday. The great question was; what do you want to yourself regarding with this subject? All of us spoke about his/her personal ideas, ways to solve problems and, how to be much more assertive as a group.
Finally, we reach some rules to follow as a schedule to deal with each task weekly such as death lines, ways of pulls, and ways to reach agreements as soon as possible.
With these new tools in our pockets, we had been doing our best for next Monday presentation in which I am sure we will bright as if a new sun were raised from a dark horizon.

Here is the recorder of our own  presentation in which we show the emotions and the primary colours throughout a nice game making fellows taking part in it.

Here there are our personal critic and reflexion of our presentation from Wednesday. This reflexion showed us where were our mistakes and allow us fixed them as accurate as possible, It has been one of the toughest work we have done at moment, but I should say it is really helpful to improve not only the presentation itself also to spark the heart of the group for making our best in future task. “Practice makes perfect” But it is important to focus on mistakes to solve them accurately.

I should say it is only a few things because other ways this post will be unending.
  • ·         The introduction of  our stars is nice.
  • ·         Second 36,   there is no introduction to the game. Maybe the nerves, maybe the moment but it is something to fix.
  • ·         The barrier of the podium is broken making the audience connect with the game
  • ·          Minute 1.10, the slide is not coordinate with the show.
  • ·          Minute 1.22, the facts linked with red colour are explained so fast for kids. For next ideas, we will delete some of them.
  • ·         With the yellow colour, no one takes part. The games are dangerous when we have only 4 minutes, but as we love the idea of teaching with games we are eager to give another try in the future ideas.
  • ·         Minute 2.12, same that minute 1.22, the fact is reading so fast and with many words to understand in the slide. 
  • ·         The time is over before starting with the primary colours. Maybe we consider so much to say in just 4 minutes time, “we are dreamers”. One thing is clear, In the future, we must be aware of the restriction of time we are given.
  • ·         Finally, the investigation of the influence of colours does not interest kids. We  will consider the influence of our presentation to teach something for kids between 6 and 11 years old.

With these considerations in mind, the group have restarted again a new presentation with a better idea, better design slides and planning a perfect slideshow taking into account the resources that we have in the classroom.

Making reflexion based on our mistakes lead us to understand, fix and deliver a new slideshow by far, much more adapted to our future students.


The second part of this week task that I was in charge to choose a group and analyse the worst, the mistakes and the best. In my notes, you can see the best and the weakest part of their representation in which they showed the topic, The Food Chain. This was the funniest due to the fact one of their start was dress up as a bear. I appreciate a lot that anyone of us turned up with this fantastic idea, I may say the bravest one. Besides, the presentation was weak on a few factors, here there are;


This mistakes helped us to rebuilt our presentation as well. Moreover, whether we paying attention to our mistakes we would fix them, other ways it will be difficult to learn something worthy. 
In my personal opinion this week we were taught a valuable lesson. We must read deeper to better understand the task perfectly, pay attention to details such as "The  W" questions before creating a slideshow and work in the group a bit more conscious about our future.

[ANALYST] TASK 3 - CREATIVE COMMONS AND PRESENTATIONS

Hi everyone I'm Edu Espinosa and before explaining the analysis I'm going to begin by presenting myself, as I have said before, my name is Edu and I'm the 3rd analyst of Frisky Hedgehogs, my work is to make a reflection about the group's performance in this task, which is called "Using Creative Commons License".

First of all, I'm going to explain how the actual situation of the group is in order to make you all having a better understanding of the post.

Nowadays we are in the third task so we have some experience by working together, despite having made other projects such as TPACK or Cartography projections and the group works really nice, there's still a long path to walk until the end of the course, as well as experience to gain and problems to solve. Up to now all the members of the group act with a double dimension, the first one is doing the task by working together as a group, something which is what is expected to do, we all work in the class about the topic. The other part of our work is individually, I mean, as everyone of us have a different role, we use to work it (in my case, make the reflection) at home, but if one of us have a doubt at any moment, we do not think twice about put it on our WhatsApp group, maybe this ability to work together and try to solve everyone's problems is our secret weapon, we do not know yet, anyway, that is something which we definitely must keep as a group for the next weeks.

Getting back to the task, as I see it, and maybe the rest of Frisky Hedgehogs will agree with me, the best moment of this third activity was when it was presented to us because no-one of us knew what was the issue supposed of to do and, instead of getting nervous or also anxious, we did like a brain-storming (I think it is called like that) and we reach the first objective; knowing what we have to do in the task. On the other hand, the worse part of this project, and also something which we have to improve as a group, was undoubtedly some little discrepancies which we have had in order to get a common agreement in a few things, but the problem is not our little fights, it is the attitude that we have to solve them because in so many cases it is not like a constructively one and that kind of things are very important for a teacher, I mean, as a teacher we should take a "progressive or assertive" attitude in the sense that it will be really nice if our way to solve problems or set solutions is the most helpful, compressively one or also as thrive as possible.

From my own point of view, working with Creative Commons has been something very necessary because thanks to that we have learnt various things; first of all, all these issues about copyright, free use of online material and so on, but secondly (and for me the most important one) is the matter that Creative Commons is such a kind of idea to share and make things accessible to an entire community of learners (I'm focused on education aspects), which is, this "platform / license / instrument..." is a great type of tool for a teacher because it will allow us to have like a treasure trove of material and also a way to share gladly our work with others to improve education and society.

The other part of the task, which is "Presentations" is close and related to our last semester subject Planificación de la Acción Educativa, because presentations are a way to explain, I mean, they are a specific type of methodology (in that subject we studied methodology inside a specific unit), a way to explain something made by teachers. Otherwise, make a research far away of books, for example searching on the Internet for acquiring information about a theme, is an activity gathered by the Real Decreto de Educación Primaria, also studied in a different unit of Planificación de la Acción Educativa.

Finally, I must not overlook the conversation (rather it could be considered a monologue) that Linda had with the entire class about our Wednesday presentations and the effect made on Frisky Hedgehogs had due to it. What Linda said was a kind of schold but very useful because it was full of great advice for us as future teachers, obviously, it influence us and we decide to organize a meeting for talk about it, something which is an "intelligence" act because in the future it would be great if everyone of us could have the ability to stop for a moment and think about how is he or she doing their job, I mean, if the teacher job is been doing correctly and if it is not, what to do for correct it.

All in all, we do not stop being a group of students fighting for our degree and, for me, it is quite usual that we have mistakes, little fights, questionable choices, bad feelings and things like that but, that is exactly what allow us to gain experience and learn how we should act as future teachers when we are in front of a concrete situation. In other words, we can say: we are always (but now with more emphasis because we are studying that) in a continuous "building" of our way to act, as well as we are in a non-stop learning or educational process.

[STAR] TASK 3 - COMMON LICENSES & PRESENTATIONS

I usually like to be the star, but I always end up with that feeling about I could do it much better. The mind is powerful and inside of it I see it clearly and super bright but the reality is not always even the half part of the imagined.
In this case, Edu and me had the colours idea and everyone liked it so we felt comfortable working with it and each other. Both have difficult schedules but we could meet at night after work to rehearse and we were very excited about the presentation.
Then, it was the time; what a disappointment that the colours in the screen weren’t the same we had… the red was scarcely red, the yellow look as green… a disaster! The presentation was based in the colours and the feelings they produce as cold and warm colours so I had to improvise and say everybody to close their eyes and imagine the colour we want to talk about.
I got dressed in red to represent warm colours and Edu in blue to do the same with cold ones, but finally I didn’t use it at all for the explanation. When we read the guideline about the task of this week, we are sure that we had to choose a topic related to any primary content, but NOT for being explained for children. So, obviously we missunderstood that instruction.
Not everything was bad, at least we moved around the space, and we try to catch the audience by interacting with them, as Linda said, that was a good point. And of course, there was not so easy to prepare something great in two days and for four minutes. You need more than that to explain well something to children. Therefore, there are a lot of understandable points to take account but, with all that, I still think it was not a good and professional performance and I expected more from me because I am used to be on the stage or work as a teacher and I was even nervous. I felt as if I had never been in such a situation, and I felt insecure during the speech.
As I said, working with Edu Galvez was great because we think similar and we like acting and so on. To have a good environment with peers when you are working in groups is very important. I think we should say the good things that one person do for the group every time, because it is usual that we say the mistakes and bad things but they do not remark the good ones. We studied that positive feedback is good in order to learn. So, how do not we use it more often?

I completely agree with Cristina's reflection. I could repeat ALL of the words that she has said. I love working with people like her. Regarding the presentation's time, I thought that I would feel more nervous, but when I said the first phrase, I calmed down. My weak point is my English level, so I felt nervous by that. However, I got happy when we finished the presentation.

On the other hand, I think that a good environment for working is very important. So I would like, when I do something (always with my best intention, of course), members of my group would try to find the positive part, not ONLY negative things. With a positive thinking, all “faces” of the our life will be much better.  



Luckily we have the opportunity to repeat it and improve it. This time must be perfect, not excuses. We want to be good teachers, original, creative, professional and loving teachers, so this is the moment to show it, to try things, to learn, to fall and get up again. Let’s do it!

[TRANSLATOR] TASK 3 CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSES AND PRESENTATIONS

Hi everyone! I am Pepi, this week I am the translator and these are the key words that I have selected to explain. The reason of my election is because they are the essential basic concepts which we have to know before understanding how to start using Creative Common Licenses and making a good presentation. 


Creative Common Licenses: is a non-profit organization founded in 2001 by Lawrence Lessig, Hal Abelson and Erix Eldred. It is led by different professional people such as educators, technologists, lawyers, investors and philanthropists among others. Creative Common Licenses makes possible share, use, edit and so on materials for free without spending your time and resources trying to get permission of the authors because the permission has already been granted. It does not replace copyright, it permits you to modify your copyright in order to change them according to your needs. They are recognized around the world because they are based on the legal rules of intellectual property. Depending on your preferences, you can choose among six different licenses to mark your material, if someone break your permission, you will be informed. On the other hand and at similar way, if you want to use licensed material, you must attribute to their author and specify some other information such as title, source and type of license. Besides you will have to follow and comply with their restrictions or, if you want to use it in other way that they do not permit with CC license, you can get in touch with the author and be granted the permission.

Attribution: it is a condition that people who use CC licensed material have to follow in all type of CC licensed. This is compulsory and the less restrictive license. When people use CC licensed material have to inform that this material has a different author and write information such as the title, author, source, and type of license. It is necessary and compulsory to attribute by naming only the author, but the perfect attribution would be the one explained before and linking to the original source in which the material was obtained, and the profile web of the author. This could be compared as when we use some theories, ideas and so on from books, websites or articles that we are forced to use APA references. Attribution would be something similar but in the CC licensed scenario with photos, videos, blogs, which are different types of materials and the support will be on the net.

Copyright: is a law that gives you rights over the things that you create such as books, paintings, music, videos…It is considered as human basic rights and it lasts, depending on the country, around 50 years after the death of the author. Once this time expires, these materials became public domain. From the moment that you are creating them, they start having copyright, it is automatic and it protects you to avoid that your material can be used, displayed, reused, edited, by others without your previous authorization. If someone do it without your agreement, you are in your rights to take them to court and ask for a compensation.

Public domain: if some materials or resources are under public domain, it means that this material is free to be used by anyone who wants to and for any purpose without restriction. This is because there is not an owner of these resources, the author has died and the time after the death has expired, (50 years, or depending on the country could be more) or no one controls them, or the copyright is not correctly done. It is necessary to distinguish between a material under Public Domain and those which have already been changed using a Public Domain material by an author, in this case, the new material becomes a property of this author and acquires copyright. When we use material under Public Domain we have to be sure that it is the original one, not derivate material which will have copyright.

Glance test: is a term used by Nancy Duarte to refer to the quality that the slides in a presentation must have. According to her, to overcome her glance test people should be able to understand each slide in three seconds. Slides must be considered as billboards, taking into account that you must read all the content while you are driving, so they cannot have millions of words, only the key ones. If slides are full of text, audience will get lost. Slides are the support or the presenter, they are an index of them. To sum up, to pass glance test, slides must have only the key words to support the presenter and must be read in three seconds each.

[STAR] TASK 2- MAP PROJECTIONS, TREASURE HUNT, MEDIA DISTORTIONS

Hi I'm Pablo and this week I'm the Star of this group. At the beginning when the teacher gave us the task I was in a good mood because the task I had to present was interesting. I also wasn't nervous because I thought I was going to present the task with other partner, but when we decided that I was going to be the only star, I started to get nervous, but it wasn't that big of a deal, so I did my part of the research. Then I thought that the presentation was going to be too short and things like that.

The next day, when we put together all the information, it was a relief for me because I knew that I was going to fill all the time in the presentation. Then, to prepare the presentation I practiced a lot with a stopwatch, my sister helped me to see if I was doing well etc. In the end, at the presentation I think I did OK and it was a big relief for me when I finish.

I think that the worst part was the moments before my presentation. I was watching the other ones doing their presentations and some of them were making mistakes, the teacher was kind of intimidating, so I started to though that I was going to make the same mistakes, but at the end everything went well.

[STAR] TASK 1 - EXPLORING TPACK

The mirror technique

As the star this week, I was pleased to present to my peers a valuable framework in education, TPACK.  It was an intimidating and gratifying experience talking about this useful knowledge-tool for us as future professional teachers.

What gave me some extra confidence was spend the whole weekend and part of the  week doing  rehearsals in front of the mirror, watching my voice, pronunciation  and body movements. Moreover, during the presentation in the classroom, all my focus was speaking as clear as possible and being connected with my listeners through eye contact, physical presence, and emotional engagement.  The worst part, as usually, the beginning of each speech, it was terrifying. Yet, once I broke the ice everything was running smoothly.

[TRANSLATOR] TASK 2 - MAP PROJECTIONS, TREASURE HUNT, MEDIA DISTORTIONS

TERMS, Key words.
Mercator Map Projection:
Gerardus Mercator created the Mercator Map Projection in 1569. The aim of his map projection was to be useful in navigation. It is represented with a cylindrical shape in which the areas that are far away from the equator get distorted.

Robinson Map Projection:
Arthur H. Robinson created the Robinson Map Projection in 1963. The aim of his projection was to show an entire image of the world in a flat image. To do that he decided to design his map projection in an oval form, not cylindrical. This map projection suffers a distortion, which is critical in the poles, due to the curvature of the meridians.

Azimuthal Map Projection:
The Azimuthal Map Projection is a kind of map projection that shows a circular image of part of the Earth. The advantage of this map projection is that distances shown in points through straight lines are real, but it can not be represented the entire Earth in just one image and it is distorted in the rest of the areas of the map.

Media Distortion:
Media Distortion consists in giving false information about a topic depending on the interest of each specific mass media or people that control that mass media, it means that the reality is not showed as it is, the reality is changed to cheat the receptor.

Internet Treasure Hunt:
It consists in a methodology in which the students are asked to look for information on the web, in order to answer questions given by the teacher. The teacher should provide the students different webs, to compare different resources. The idea is that the students become capable to look for information in the web and be able to understand that information. The treasure hunt methodology includes the competition between the students to be the first in answering all the given questions.

TERMS, Key words.


Content knowledge: It is the knowledge that teachers have to teach in their subject such as maths, science, language and so on. It is composed of the concepts, theories, ideas, organizational frameworks, knowledge of evidence and proof, as well as practices and approaches in order to develop such knowledge. All in all, it is all curriculum areas set by the administration.

Pedagogical knowledge: It is the knowledge about processes, methodologies and psychological knowledge of teaching and learning. It is composed by aims and purposes. It defines how students learn and the accurate strategies depending on their development, cognitive or social skills in order to be applied in the classroom.

Technological knowledge: It is the information technology focused in work and everyday life either for teacher and student. It provides a spectrum of tools to improve knowledge and it offers a variety of ways to do each task in order to engage students with tech learning. This knowledge is always in movement and evolution so it is flexible and dynamic.

Information map: It is a method for showing information in a structured way. It was developed by Robert E.Horn at Harvard and Columbia Universities. It gives visual and immediate information based on the topic it contains. Besides, it shows the preferences of a specific concept in a structured manner in order to make the reader better unbeatable a given idea.

Speed learning: It is a method of learning in which students have to talk one to one in a short period of time about a topic of learning. This methodology it helpful to develop a faster way to solving problems and sharing ideas with others.

Diagram: It is a simplified drawing which represents a structure or describes something. It helps to see and develop the relation among different dimension and its relationships. Moreover, it is easy for explaining each part of a given concept and after trigger the result of their interaction as well as to go deeper into the concept's explanation.

[ANALYST] TASK 2 - MAP PROJECTIONS, TREASURE HUNT, MEDIA DISTORTIONS

Hi guys! I’m Edu Gálvez and this week I’m the “analyst” of the group, so I have to analyse our work by doing a reflection about that. My reflection is the next:

Reflection MAP PROJECTIONS Task

This second week has been a little strange. The task was divided into three parts. Firstly, we had to describe three different map projections (Robinson, Mercator and Azimuthal), selecting two countries (one from Europe and one from other continent) and compare them using the different map projections. And also, to finish this first part, we had to decide what the best map projection to be used in a classroom is. Secondly, we had to find an example of information distorted by the media. And in the third part, we had to find an example of a “treasure hunt” related to primary education. 

As I said before, this second week was quite weird. This is mainly because our group had some problems to organize the work and agree. This has been the worst part of the activity. And the worst moment of the week was when, in the beginning, we had to distribute the different parts of the task for working because we couldn’t agree. As a group, we need to improve teamwork: all members of the group should contribute and care about the task in the same way. Also, we need to find the right way of organization. This is an important thing that we have learnt.

However, despite the bad moments, we should have good moments every week. For example, the second workday (Tuesday) we were laughing for a while and it was a fun moment!  We should try to keep a friendly atmosphere and I’m sure that the work will be better.

On the other hand, the content of this task has been useful for us: media as way of information aren’t neutral and we hadn’t to believe all things that we see or hear on them. Also, we can relate the content of this task with a past subject called “Planning of the Educational Action” (Planificación de la Acción Educativa), in which there was a didactical unit based on the methodology of the teacher. In this task we have studied the “treasure hunt”, that is a funny and good way of learning.
